Our Projects

Vathsalya Seva Trust (R.), Karkala has been constituted by prominent citizens of karkala with a view to set up an Old Age Home, a facility so far unavailable to the senior citizens of the area. The aims and objectives of the proposed Institution are not only to shelter the needy elders, but also to ensure that their final years are spent in an enjoyable and healthy manner. The Home shall be open to all senior citizens irrespective of caste, creed or religion.

Karkala is popularly known as “PADU TIRUPATHI KHSETRA” (Tirupathi of the West) because of the hallowed presence of Lord Venkataramana Temple in the Town. The Trustees of this Temple, established in the Fifteenth Century, have always displayed strong social commitment for welfare and upliftment of the local community. Continuing this grand tradition of charitable munificence, the Trustees have had no hesitation in granting a lease of five acres of prime temple land for a period of 99 years at a nominal rent for establishing our Old Age Home. As a result the Home is coming up in sylvan surroundings amongst verdant woods. There is no doubt that building the Old Age Home has only been possible because of this generosity of the Trustees. Two of the Temple Trustees viz. Sri K. Mohandas Shenoy and Sri Y. Narasimha Shenoy have also joined as ‘ex-officio’ Trustees of Vathsalya Seva Trust which oversees the Home.

The activities of the Trust are overseen by a Board of Trustees representing eminent citizens from different walks of life. The Trust has been granted registration as a Public Charitable Trust, and donations to the trust are exempt u/s 80G of the Income-tax Act 1961.

The Management of Shree Venkataramana Temple Karkala has been gracious in providing five acres of land on 99 years of lease for setting up the Old Age Home. It is envisaged that the Home shall be a model assisted-care facility in the most holistic sense. It aims to provide not only comfortable shelter with nutritious food, but also other necessities of old age such as medical services, home nursing etc. Good infrastructure such as well-ventilated rooms, library and reading rooms, walking tracks, gardens, meditation and prayer halls etc will be provided. Cultural events, entertainment programmes and similar rejuvenating activities are to be regularly organised. Overall a wholesome lifestyle shall be ensured for the resident elders.

The Foundation Stone of this project was laid on Oct. 1, 2011 in a well-attended ceremony. The project is estimated to cost around Rs 10 Crores.

We pray unto Lord Venkataramana to shower His Grace on our Old Age Home for all time to come.
